Ty Hendler
Ty, Who is your hero?
My hero is Tito Mays. He has played a huge roll in my life since I was in third grade. He is my basketball trainer but most of all, my mentor. Tito has taught me many important life skills and correlates basketball with it. I will forever love Tito and how much he has helped me grow into an adult.
How has being a basketball player changed your life?
It has been very influential in my life since the time I was born. I grew up loving the sport and all aspects of it. At this point my daily life revolves around it and I am consistently going from practice to workout out and visa versa. It’s a lot of work but I enjoy every bit of it.
What advice can you share with kids about being a great basketball player and being a great human being?
Never take anything for granted. This basketball journey has gone by so quick. If I could, I would do it all over again because of how much fun it has all been. Traveling with my club team and extremely competitive tournaments are some of my favorite memories.
What do you do to ensure your mental health is as strong as your physical health?
As an athlete I always make sure my mental health is in a good state because I know how important it is for successful results. I always do my best to be prepared and read for anything on and off the floor.

How do you overcome challenges?
I overcome challenges by pushing through the best that I can. I try to stay focused on the positive and display good attitude and knowing that I will get through that challenge.
What do you wish adults would understand about young people today?
I wish that adults would understand that young people today are growing up in a different generation than they grew up in due to the age of social media. Kids these days see other players on the internet and get discouraged about themselves because they aren’t as good as that player, or that they aren’t posted on social media. But in reality, a lot times social media is bringing an unrealistic standard to kids and the kid is actually doing great in their own world.
What gets you up in the morning?
My dreams and goal keep me waking up everyday to purse the life I am living.
What are your biggest dreams?
To play college basketball and start off my life with a career that I enjoy.
